Venturing out

Into other crafting areas that is.

New table runner all ready for the T-day Turky

Look! I do know how to use a sewing machine! Ok, so by "use" I mean I remembered how to set everything up and make it actually go- but hey, that's an accomplishment to me. The table runner itself was purchased after much searching for a decent one, but it ended up being too short. It seems they do make 90" runners but they appear to be hard to come by, and I liked this one damn it. So I figured I could handle sewing on little extensions. A quick trip to the fabric store produced remarkably close matching fabric and trim; I took that as a good sign.
It's not 100% perfect (that sewing a straight line thing is tricky and all) but you would never know if you're not scrutinizing it, therefore I call it a successful project.
The new Craft Room in the works has plans for a little sewing table, as I really do want to sew more. I think it'll be much easier if the machine isn't buried in the bottom of my closet as its only storage place. Next up a needle roll case and these great headbands.

Knitting? Oh yeah, that. The magazine project got delayed and the new deadline is now the end of this month and thus nothing to show really. I hope to be more interesting soon.

I'd probably sew more if I didn't have to go to my mom's and borrow her machine! hehe

Good work! It looks very pretty.

oooh very nice runner. :) i have a sewing machine i have only used once. i want to make a needle roll so bad...but i'm a bit scared of my machine (there! i SAID IT!) hehehe. you can do it you can do it

The needle roll case was my first sewing project probably since high school. I love it.

Very nice runner! You make me want to haul my own sewing machine out from under the bookshelf and scrape off the dust and cat hair again.

Great job! I found I used my sewing machine much more when it had it's own dedicated space - easier to get to and use! Love the headbands - I'll have to make some with all my scrap fabric!

Lookit you! That's an awesome remastering of a piece.

I always feel guilty about abandoning my sewing machine in leiu of knitting. And it sits out on a table mocking me. [sigh] If only I could craft all the time, right?

I think the runner came out very cute! I used to sew a bit before I started knitting but was never very good at it--keeping those seams straight is indeed difficult! Found I was much better at knitting and now only take out the sewing machine occasionally (especially considering that I have nowhere good to put it).

Way to go on your runner! I have been eyeing needle cases for quite some time, but never had the courage to try to make one (non-sewer here). I do however have a sewing machine, so maybe that will be a goal for 2007!
