Peanut Butter Blossoms
An oldie but goodie

I love this cookie. Great combination of chocolate and peanut butter but I really recommend getting the chocolate stars instead of the more common Hershey’s Kisses. These are softer and smaller and much easier to get both chocolate and cookie in one bite. The kisses always seem so tall and hard and end up falling off when trying to eat them. This batch was packed up and shipped off to Iowa for my sister- hope you had a Happy B-day Jessica!
Peanut Butter Blossoms
Beat shortening and peanut butter in large bowl until well blended. Add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and brown sugar; beat until fluffy. Add egg, milk and vanilla; beat well. Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into peanut butter mixture.
Shape dough into 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar; place on ungreased cookie sheet.
Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Immediately press a chocolate star into center of each cookie; cookie will crack around edges. Remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. About 4 dozen cookies.
And a little recent thrifty find.

I've managed to amass a decent collection of embroidery thread and cross stitch supplies from thrift stores. It's more common around here than knitting supplies it seems. I had enough that I just spread out my large bag of thread for Mr. Pieknits to choose his color for the Knucks embroidery. This recent bundle just goes to show the never-ending ingenuity of crafters though. Hole punched plastic bags and cut out binder covers are held together with O-rings to make a great organized holder. I think I'll have to get some more of those little bobbins and wind up the rest of my thread stash to add to this. It's even already sorted by color- thank you clever crafter.
Next I am so making this Subversive cross stitch complete with (also thrifted) gaudy gold frame and plopping it down on the desk at work.

Yum! I could go for one of those cookies right now. Maybe I'll bake some up this weekend. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

mmm.. cookies. I seem to have an overwhelming stash of embroidery floss too.. I keep mine on those little bobbins and in a box so that I can see all of the colors lined up.

Oh my. Peanut Butter Blossoms are my FAVORITE! Having cravings now. You are right about the stars vs the kisses.

those cookies look so yummy. (I hate that about the kisses too - mine always fall off!)
what a great idea to orgainze floss! I have tons of it in a big bag, and some in those organizer boxes, but I love this idea!

I love the pie piece BTW.
The cookies that you have here are part of the reason I love christmas. For some reason my mom only made cookies at christmas...
Maybe I will make a treat for myself today. Where do you get the chocolate stars?
Did you take that photo? It is a really good shot.
Also, I appreciate the free patterns with pictures. I LOVE the pie. What am I supposed to do with it though? Make a center piece maybe?

You gotta eat the cookies while they are still warm, and the chocolate is still all melty. One of my food memories is of these cookies, made by my mother. We ate them warm and I remember being blissfully surprised to bite into the cookie and the Kiss, which still looked like a Kiss, was soft and mixed beautifully with the peanut butter cookie.

I have never had peanut butter blossoms before, so I had to make them over the weekend. And they were delicious, and my hubby declared them the best cookies I've ever made. :) So thanks for posting!

Stars!

I too love the stars, but they have been harder and harder to find. Finally found a local store that carries them for a good price and made ten dozen this year. No one else I know uses the stars, but I hate the kisses because they don't attach well. I am going to try your recipe, as the ones I have been using have more sugar and are almost too sweet.
Thanks,
Stephanie Swee
