Crafting by the seat of your pants
I hacked up a t-shirt!

I forgot to get a Before picture (bad blogger!) but it was your standard large male tee. I've been looking at shirt reconstructions for ages and have several I've wanted to try. I've also been planning on taking a sewing class because my "skill" extends to knowing how to work my sewing machine and that's about it. However, with tickets in hand for the Tool concert* I wanted to make this one now. Laaa, my spectacularly crappy sewing job!

I don't care, I love the shirt! And hey, it's in black, you can't really see the crap sewing too much.

I pretty much completely winged this, no idea what I was doing. I laid a smaller fitted shirt over top as a guide and cut down the sides and sleeves. I just made up a way for sewing in the eyelet tape but I should have cut the armholes deeper width wise. So I fashioned little pieces at the top of the eyelet strips to hold them together, it appears to have worked. I had originally planned on cap sleeves of some sort but then woke up and realized that was way out of my league. Instead I drew on a neckline, cut and tied the front straps with some ribbon, me likey!
*It was awesome btw - they really put on a great show

It's really cute, Jen. And what a great way to get something useable out of something that's not. Alas, I'm a horrible seamstress and can only admire from afar! ;)

Very cute! There's a great book out about T-shirt reconstructing called Generation T. Some cute stuff in there.

We're seeing them on June 4th. I'm so excited! I tend to feel a little old at these concerts (saw Perfect Circle a couple of years back-felt REALLY old) but it's always fun!
The shirt looks great!

I love that! I really like the bows at the shoulders. I've been thinking about reconstructing my own shirt, I'm seeing them May 31st. Great to hear it was an awesome show!

It does look really cute. I think the metal grommets give it a nice finish.

Nice! I've heard from anyone and everyone who's ever been that they put on the absolute best concert ever. I can't believe out of all the concerts I've been to I've still managed to not see these guys! Glad you had a good time, and awesome job on the shirt!

Cool T-Shirt! I love the bow details. I'm new to commenting on your blog but as one of the bloggers I enjoy reading, would you mind if I tagged you for the meme going around? Rules are on mine.

That came out rockin! Good way to make those oversized T-shirts actually work, too.

That looks really good! I have a deconstructed concert tee that I want to change (again) and this just reminded me to go work on it. I love the idea of taking a big concert tee and making it actually look stylish.

Eyelet tape... proof of the gods love. As someone who has sweated through grommeting the dratted things, I am totally in love with the tape. The shirt looks great on you, and.... I'll confess. I have three old tshirts of the hubby's that are now destined for hackerhood along these lines. Wonderful job!

Color me Green! I am sooo jealous you're going to see Tool! That's so awesome! You have to tell me how it is! Okay, I'll stop talking in exclamation points now. -=giggle=- The shirt looks great, you did a terrific job at altering it to suit you. Have fun at the concert, if you haven't already gone!
