FO: Basic Ribbed Socks - first pair!

Wow, three FO's in a month - what's happened to me? (Technically they were finished in May, I am late blogging them)

9 months in the making, really are like babies

Yep, really basic socks, but I figured a good place to start (crazy idea, I know). I'm so happy with them! And fun to photograph! I have this theory that socks are kinda the "baby pictures of other peoples kids" of the knitblog world. It's never quite as interesting to others as it is to you. I know before I started a sock, I'd see photos and was like "That's nice, but you know- looks like a sock, whoopie." But then you start you're own, and every little part is so novel. I was all "Look!! It actually Looks Just Like a Sock!". And you want to show it off even to those you know have less than equal enthusiasm.

knit blogging makes you do odd things, like photograph your own feet

It really took a long time to finish the second one, but that's because I made them my traveling socks. They're such a great easy-yet-interesting project to take on the road. They've logged several flights as well. I think a pair of socks will always be on the needles for me. Not going to be churning them out left and right but it rounds out the WIP basket nicely and oh so portable.

No they're not blocked, far too lazy to block socks

Showing someone the socks - "Look, see how the gusset is formed, cool huh?" Equals about the same reaction as
Showing some teenager - "Awww, isn't the baby cute when it burps like that?"

Handknit sock friendly shoes, woot!

These shoes have found a new purpose.

Yarn: Bernat Sox in Jazz Hot colorway
Pattern: Basic Ribbed Socks from Spunmag.com by Kate Atherley
Needles: US size 2
Followed the directions exactly and worked at 60 sts.

Woohoo! They're great socks! I'm only on the second half of my first pair. I'm told the addiction should kick in any time now. I do find I'm looking at a lot more sock yarn lately. It's such fun colours.

Your babies are beautiful! I never get tired of sock pictures.

Great socks! Love the shoes too.

Nothing at all wrong with basic plain socks! I love doing a plain stockinette pair at least every-other time. Love the colors!

Great job on your first socks! There very cute (cute shoes, too). I've just started my first sock (also simple).

Aren't socks fun! I sense another sock addict being formed. They look great.

They're beautiful, and I do remember that excitement :) I'm still fascinated by the construction of socks, even after my 6 or 7th pair.

Love the colors! I don't think I'll ever be tired of sock photos or the wonder of actually MAKING a sock heel. Every time I do it.. I think its cool.. I can't help it.

your socks look great! i feel the same way with socks that i knit (i only just finished my second pair). i want to take pictures of them every which way and just show them off. no shame in that! : )

So this must be a common thing w/ socks, this feeling like they are special in some way, when really, they are just socks. Because I certainly felt like my first (and only, so far) socks were special, or at least a milestone in some way. Before I knit them I had some sort of knitters block about them. Now I think I can conquer any sock! :-)

Those look soo cute. On another note, I love those shoes you're wearing! -=giggle=- Eventually I am going to get around to making myself socks.. However, I have a slight sock and sweater fear. I don't know when I am going to dive right in and make them.

Very nice socks! And I have to say, you have me curious at the tattoo creeping up your leg!

Super cute! I love the shoes, too.

See, but just like being a mommy...once you have made your own sock babies, looking at other people's sock babies will make you go "awwww!" because you remember the magic of birthing your first pair.

I think your sock theory really has something. You know you are in deep when you make comments about how incredible someone's heel is. Your photos are great - it is hard get good sock photos, or at least I've found. Go you on your productivity run!

Hi. . .Your socks are great! I have been reading your blog for awhile now, and I just started my own. I was wondering if you would link me?

~Laura

These are terrific and I love the colors.

Hahaha...you have found out the secret of sock knitting. What an addiction! BTW, your socks look great and I love those shoes

Well, I think your knitted babies are cute!

haha, i hear ya, only, in my life its more like knitting in general just isn't understood by most. :-p

Those are fantastic!

Another sock virgin bites the dust.
They are ALL lovely. People who don't appreciate a nicely turned heel, short rows or a neat Kitchener just don't know how to appreciate them! Not. your. fault.

I know what you mean about the socks. I've only knitted 2 pair; one without any pattern at all (different sizes and too big) and my first with a pattern that came out great! Haven't done any since then but want to get back to doing them.

Yours are beautiful. Nothing wrong with doing easy, basic socks. They don't have to be fancy to look wonderful.

Those shoes now, those are mahvelous! I covet those shoes and I'm not a shoe person!

very cute! nice job for your first socks!!!!!

Yay for socks! Yours are beautiful. I just finished knitting my first sock last weekend, and I totally agree with your theory. It's just not the same if you don't understand!

Great socks, but even more, I love those shoes! Where'd you get 'em?

haha you're so right! I had to take my first pair to work to get an oooh or awww from a fellow knitter, since my roommate didn't give me a good enough reaction. Here are my first born. I might have to try this ribbed pattern, too!

Ana's First Socks!

Where did you get those shoes? They're great!
